At CinemaCon, director Travis Knight offered a closer look at Masters of the Universe and explained what he hopes will resonate with fans old and new alike. Knight, along with stars Nicholas Galitzine and Camila Mendes, shared extra footage and context for the film’s approach to the beloved property.
A director who grew up with He-Man
Knight recalls his childhood devotion to the He-Man universe, from the 1980s cartoons to the Castle Grayskull playset that stood as a prized gift. He treats toys as vessels for imagination, a mindset that informs his storytelling and his track record, including Bumblebee.

Earth is a rare backdrop
While online chatter celebrated Earthbound sequences, Knight confirms the live-action portion is a minority. He estimates roughly 15–17% of the runtime unfolds on Earth, with most of the adventure centering on Eternia to set up Adam’s origin and his world.

A tactile, Bumblebee-inspired weapon design
One standout is Trap Jaw’s weaponized arm, a practical, modular device that can transform with a click and a twist. Knight steered away from nanotech, pushing for something that reads as real, oily, and dangerous on screen.

A film meant to bridge generations
Knight views Masters of the Universe as a generation-spanning entry point that could spark a lifelong connection to He-Man. He shared a memory of being moved by E.T. and said the film aims to forge that kind of emotional tie with a new audience.

A redefined masculinity for Eternia
The story invites a broader view of what it means to be a man. Adam/He-Man is shown as strong yet capable of empathy, prompting conversations about modern masculinity and how understanding and communication can coexist with action-packed heroism.
Masters of the Universe hits theaters June 5, 2026.
