Michael Leads China Box Office as Weekend Slump Persists

Universal’s biographical drama Michael opened atop the Chinese box office for the April 24–26 frame, pulling in RMB32.6 million (about $4.8 million). The figure helps push its worldwide tally to roughly $217 million, per Comscore.

The domestic drama It’s OK claimed second place in its fourth weekend, adding around $1.7 million for a running total near $26.8 million. The film is a China Film production directed by Yang Lina, featuring Wen Qi and Qin Hailu in a narrative about a young woman’s life disrupted by her mother’s arrival as she prepares for an urgent medical procedure.

Horror-thriller The Caged Butterfly rose to third with about $1.5 million, bringing its total to $13.1 million. Ultra Comedy produced the feature, directed by Hao Han, starring Li Meng, Liu Siwei, and Jiang Zhuojun, set inside a haunted Butterfly Mansion where a life-or-death game unfolds.

Rounding out the top five, Project Hail Mary earned roughly $1.3 million in its sixth weekend for a cumulative $39.1 million, while The Super Mario Galaxy Movie added about $1.2 million for a total of $18.7 million.

Overall, the market stayed quiet with weekend grosses near $16 million as audiences await the May Day holiday slate. Mainland China year-to-date revenue stands at about $1.89 billion, down nearly half from the same point in 2025.
