Two acclaimed performers are set to star in a Louisiana‑set drama from Beasts of the Southern Wild’s director, Benh Zeitlin.

The film, titled Hold on to Your Angels, marks Zeitlin’s first feature in six years since Wendy, and it arrives as a bold romantic saga set against a crumbling bayou landscape.

The story follows a hell‑bound outlaw and a fierce guardian of the lost who are drawn together as their fragile bayou world collapses around them.

Brad Pitt’s Plan B is producing, with Alex Coco’s Rapt Film aboard. The project will launch as a Cannes Marche du Film package, with The Veterans handling international sales and CAA Media Finance steering U.S. rights.

Zeitlin has described the project as an almost impossible love story, a modern myth about an endangered way of life and a plea for empathy in a fractured world. He notes the idea has been percolating since Beasts of the Southern Wild, with Pam Harper’s character helping crystallize the vision years ago.

Plan B lauds Zeitlin’s singular vision and the chance to collaborate with Buckley and Mescal on a sweeping, ambitious romance.

Buckley is between projects, including Alice Rohrwacher’s Three Incestuous Sisters with a high‑profile cast, while Mescal is at work on a quartet of Beatles biopics in which he portrays Paul McCartney. The Cannes market kicks off on May 12.

The package is being positioned for international sales at Cannes, with The Veterans handling overseas rights and CAA Media Finance leading domestic talks.
