Russell Brand Reflects on a 16-Year-Old Encounter at 30, Describes It as Exploitative

Russell Brand spoke on Megyn Kelly’s show about a past relationship with a person who was 16 when he was 30. He framed the situation in terms of a power imbalance and described the act as exploitative in hindsight. Brand noted that the age of consent in the United Kingdom and Europe is 16, and he said he was a different, younger man at the time.

In 2025, Brand’s legal case reached new milestones, with charges announced in April including rape and indecent assault on multiple women dating back to the late 1990s and early 2000s. Later that year, prosecutors added further counts related to another incident in 2009. He has pleaded not guilty, and the trial was pushed to October 12.

Brand has acknowledged that sex involving a significant power differential can be exploitative, and he said his past conduct was selfish and lacking in consideration for those affected.
