Clockwork, Warner Bros.’ niche label steered by former Neon executive Christian Parkes, has become a magnet for headlines even before a single release. After a Cannes market prestige push and a late-stage rep for a classic re-release, the division has now announced a major acquisition tied to Park Chan-wook.
The Brigands of Rattlecreek is the title in play, with North American rights being pursued as Clockwork’s latest big-ticket project. The ensemble cast includes Matthew McConaughey, Austin Butler, Pedro Pascal, and Tang Wei, the latter known from Park’s Decision to Leave. The film’s setup places a weary sheriff and a shadowy newcomer in pursuit of a ruthless gang in a tense frontier saga that spirals into personal peril.
The screenplay is by Craig Zahler, famed for Bone Tomahawk, with rewrites by Park, who also sits as producer. Production duties are led by Moho Film’s Back Jisun, with Mike Medavoy and Georgia Kacandes among the executive producers. Clockwork is aiming for a theatrical release, marking a high-profile entry on the studio’s emerging slate.
Sales rights were handled jointly by WME Independent and CAA Media Finance, according to Cannes market coverage. Neon’s past collaboration with Park on No Other Choice is part of the incentive to reunite with the filmmaker, and The Brigands would be his first English-language feature since Stoker in 2013.
Word in industry trades suggests the deal landed in the mid-teens, per Deadline’s reporting. The move reflects Clockwork’s ambition to assemble marquee talent under Warner Bros.’ evolving strategy with Paramount Skydance, signaling a bold slate ahead. Meanwhile, Clockwork’s plan to re-release The Devils for a limited run in October continues to highlight the label’s mix of spectacle and distribution play.
