Nathan Mitchell Reflects on Black Noir’s Season 5 Exit in The Boys

The Boys keeps marching toward its finale with no shortage of casualties, and Nathan Mitchell weighs in on Black Noir’s dramatic exit. In Season 5, Noir’s arc closes in a confrontation that hinges on a fraught friendship with The Deep.

Mitchell recalls a phone call from series creator Eric Kripke, who explained that Noir’s story had reached its end and that it was time to wrap the character up. He says he understood the decision and felt grateful for the long run he’s had on the show.

Two Noir, one actor

Mitchell notes that Noir’s early, silent version felt like a stark cool presence, while the later iteration let him lean into more expressive moments. The contrast gave him an opportunity to inhabit two very different takes on the same role.

Across Season 4, Noir and The Deep form an uneasy brotherhood. The Deep teaches Noir that power comes from force, and that using violence can shape outcomes. When Deep shoots Adam Bourke and Noir seeks revenge, Noir destroys an oil pipeline in retaliation, setting Deep against him and sealing their fate.

Mitchell suggests the pairing’s history makes their demise feel earned: their bond drives the demise, not a simple villain’s fall. The Boys remains available to stream on Prime Video.
