Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary are moving the Minecraft movie saga forward with a fresh title for the next chapter: A Minecraft Movie Squared.
The production press kit confirms Jared Hess is back in the director’s chair, with Chris Galletta co-writing the screenplay. A lineup of producers—Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, Roy Lee, Eric McLeod, Kayleen Walters, Torfi Frans Ólafsson, Momoa and the late Jill Messick—helps shepherd the project through its early stages.
At the center of the cast, Jack Black and Jason Momoa return, and Oscar-nominated Kirsten Dunst has joined the ensemble to play Alex, the counterpart to Steve. The team has slated A Minecraft Movie Squared for a theatrical bow on July 23, 2027.
Context from the previous film notes it opened strong at the domestic box office and went on to gross about $960 million worldwide, underscoring the franchise’s global appeal. In addition, Warner Bros. and Legendary kicked off a build‑your‑world contest inviting fans and creators to contribute ideas or builds that could appear in the movie or its end credits, with a private screening prize for the winner.
Production continues to expand the creative team behind the sequel, aiming to push forward a story born from the cube‑world fantasy that captivated audiences worldwide.
