Lupita Nyong’o isn’t wasting energy on the online chorus critiquing her casting in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. She stars as Helen of Troy and her sister Clytemnestra in the epic, Nolan’s ambitious adaptation.
In an Elle interview, she says she supports Nolan’s vision and the film’s inclusive casting. She adds she won’t waste time defending the decision; backlash will persist whether she responds or not.
The Odyssey is slated for a July 17, 2026 release. Nyong’o will share the screen with an all‑star ensemble that includes Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Zendaya and others.
Nyong’o emphasizes that the storytelling starts with the script. The process centers on the character’s inner life and the writer’s choices, not merely beauty.
She adds that criticism is inevitable for a project of this scale, and she plans to keep her focus on performance and the narrative Nolan is bringing to life.
