Wild Bunch Secures German Rights to Filmax’s Cannes-Sold Thriller Balandrau

Wild Bunch has acquired the German distribution rights to Balandrau, a survival thriller packaged by Filmax and directed by Fernando Trullols. The project is based on the real 2000 Balandrau tragedy in the Catalan Pyrenees and marks the Catalan filmmaker’s feature debut.

In Cannes market activity, Filmax has lined up a slate of international sales for the title. It has already been sold in Latin America to Star Films, in the CIS to Nashe Kino, in Australia and New Zealand to Palace Films, and in the Czech Republic and Slovakia to Foxx Media Group. Encore Inflight has secured rights for international airline screenings.

After its Spain theatrical release, the film drew more than 200,000 admissions, a figure Filmax is leveraging as a market credential during Cannes. The cast includes Álvaro Cervantes, Bruna Cusí and Marc Martínez.

“Balandrau” is the feature debut for Catalan filmmaker Fernando Trullols, a project that has garnered attention both at home and abroad.
