Batman Part II May Reveal a Hidden Chapter in Two-Face’s Origin

Warner Bros. and Matt Reeves’ sequel to The Batman is being teased as a chance to mine a rarely explored corner of Two-Face’s past.

Early reporting indicates Charles Dance is negotiating to play Harvey Dent’s father, with Sebastian Stan cast as Dent himself. The family dynamic could illuminate the emergence of Dent’s split personality and his coin-obsessed alter ego.

There are rumors of Scarlett Johansson joining as Gilda Dent, Harvey’s wife, adding another layer to the backstory being contemplated for the movie.

The first Batman film drew heavily from the 1996 comic arc Batman: The Long Halloween, a trajectory that continues to influence the sequel’s storytelling approach. One idea circulating is to place Dent Sr. at the center of Harvey’s transformation, offering a stark look at the roots of his trauma.

In the source material, Eyes of the Beholder and related stories tied Dent’s abusive upbringing to his later two-faced existence. Live-action, however, has yet to depict that specific father–son history.

Producers have floated a Villain-Not-Seen-Before angle for the sequel, which would push beyond familiar faces. Framing Two-Face through his father’s legacy could give the film a novel emotional spine while keeping with Gotham’s broader mythos.

The Batman Part II is currently slated for a fall 2027 release, targeting October 1, 2027.
