Box Office: Cronin’s The Mummy Opens With $5.2 Million as Mario Galaxy Maintains Lead

Lee Cronin’s take on The Mummy opened in 3,304 North American venues, pulling in $5.2 million on day one. The body-horror reimagining of the 1932 classic is tracking toward about $12 million by Sunday.

Across the weekend, Universal’s The Super Mario Galaxy Movie continues to lead, taking in around $7.4 million on Friday and aiming for roughly $30 million for the weekend. If that pace holds, its domestic total could approach $350 million by weekend’s end.

Project Hail Mary sat in second with roughly $5.22 million on Friday, while The Drama and You, Me & Tuscany posted about $1.5 million and $1.1 million, respectively.

Cronin’s film follows a journalist and his wife as they search for their daughter, only to uncover an ancient evil. The cast includes Jack Reynor, Laia Costa, May Calamawy, Natalie Grace, Shylo Molina and Billie Roy.
