Karl Urban Delivers Johnny Cage Fire in Fresh Mortal Kombat II Footage Revealed at CinemaCon

Warner Bros. whetted audiences’ appetites at CinemaCon with new footage from the video‑game adaptation Mortal Kombat II, spotlighting Karl Urban as Johnny Cage. The reel hints at a high‑octane clash set in the film’s Mortal Kombat tournament, a rite of passage for Earth’s champions.

The scene centers on Cage, a wind‑up ’90s action icon who’s drawn back into the arena to prove himself. He taunts Baraka and tries to bait him into squaring off against Liu Kang, only to be swept into the bout by the tournament’s own momentum.

As the moment arrives, Cage begins to panic, remarking that he’s “just an actor” and that his stunts come from others. Yet he snaps into action, unleashing a series of martial arts moves—airs, flips, and a decisive kick—that demonstrate the performer’s athleticism against Baraka.

The film is headed to theaters on May 8, with Simon McQuoid returning to direct from Jeremy Slater’s script. The cast also features Adeline Rudolph, Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Ludi Lin, Mehcad Brooks, Tati Gabrielle, Lewis Tan, Damon Herriman, Chin Han, Tadanobu Asano, Joe Taslim, and Hiroyuki Sanada. New Line’s longstanding relationship with Mortal Kombat stretches back to the franchise’s 1995 origin film, a milestone in game‑to‑screen adaptation.
