Apple TV+’s Widow’s Bay keeps pushing its eerie premise, and the latest arc lands on a 1700s-set backstory that amplifies the dread. Episode 6, titled Our History, and the following Episode 7, Seasickness, lean into a hush of fear as a new player arrives on the island.
In this installment, Sarah Westcott Warren, played by Betty Gilpin, arrives with a wedding that seems to seal her fate alongside Richard Warren (Hamish Linklater). The narrative pulls back the curtain on a centuries-old curse that stalks Widow’s Bay, reframing the island’s supernatural threat through Sarah’s wary perspective.
The episode is guided by Ti West, the horror filmmaker behind X and Pearl, who also helms the directional duties for this chapter. West’s presence gives the story a period-piece flavor that nods to his other work, including a nod to The House of the Devil in mood and texture.
Visuals echo The Witch and Midnight Mass as the colonial setting relies on candlelight, claustrophobic interiors, and creaking discoveries—elements that heighten tension far beyond the island’s modern hauntings. With the marriage uncovered as a front for larger malevolence, the episode stands out for its claustrophobic psychology and gothic atmosphere.
