The Memorial Day box office was led by the Star Wars spinoff The Mandalorian and Grogu, which opened to roughly $100 million in domestic ticket sales over the long weekend. Four‑day estimates hovered around $102 million, with about $81 million counted in the traditional weekend tally. International markets contributed approximately $63 million, bringing the worldwide debut to about $163 million.
This marks the first Star Wars theatrical release since 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker, after Lucasfilm redirected focus toward streaming series. Industry watchers will be watching the second weekend to see if the film appeals beyond hardcore fans and reaches families on a broader scale.
In second place, Focus Features’ Obsession enjoyed a robust sophomore performance for a horror title, opening to $23.9 million and rising to about $30.3 million by Monday. It has already generated roughly $60.7 million in North America and $75 million worldwide, produced on a sub-$1 million budget.
Other newcomers started outside the top five, with Passenger debutting around $10.5 million over the four‑day window and Neon’s I Love Boosters opening near $4.7 million. Boosters earned positive notices, and carries a production budget around $20 million.
