Gibson’s Resurrection of the Christ Debuts First Jesus Image as Release Schedule Shifts

Lionsgate’s The Resurrection of the Christ is being issued as two parts, and its release window has been adjusted. Part one is now slated for May 6, 2027, moving back from its previous March 26, 2027 date, while Part Two has been pushed to May 25, 2028.

The announcement comes with the release of the first-look image featuring Jaakko Ohtonen as Jesus. He steps into the role once played by Jim Caviezel in The Passion of the Christ (2004), the Gibson-directed film that earned more than $610 million worldwide and remains the top-grossing indie title ever.

Gibson frames Resurrection as a long‑held mission to tell what he believes is one of history’s most important stories.
