Thai horror standout Mim Rattanawadee Wongthong, known for her work in the Death Whisperer franchise, is set to headline Cher, a new supernatural thriller from Fearfolks in collaboration with Benetone Films. The project is moving into pre‑sales at the Cannes Market, with Mim as the leading presence.
The film draws on Thailand’s Nang Mai forest‑nymph legends and has a screenplay by Patrick Graham, the mind behind Netflix’s Ghoul and Betaal. Its concept comes from Songsak Mongkolthong, who is attached to direct the feature.
Benetone Films co‑founders Rachvin Narula and Kulthep Narula praised Mim’s talent and voiced excitement about presenting Cher to global audiences with this cast. Fearfolks CEO Hans Audric Estialbo said finding the right performer for a signature role was crucial, expecting Cher to offer an immersive cinematic experience beyond conventional scares.
The project’s Thai stars Pae Arak and Weir Sukollawat, who previously worked with Mim on Thai action drama 4 Tigers, join the cast. Cher is scheduled to shoot in early 2027 for a 2028 release, with Fearfolks handling Thai distribution and Benetone wrapping another project, Perfect Girl.
Cher follows a vengeful spirit who lures those who wronged her. The narrative opens with a vine‑covered corpse found near a remote mining camp, fueling talk of a forest spirit awakened to exact vengeance. A police officer investigating the case crosses paths with his estranged brother, the camp’s hard‑edged security chief, as more miners die and Cher’s seductive, deadly presence emerges.
Cher is set to begin filming in the first quarter of 2027, aiming for a 2028 debut.
