Sony Develops Django/Zorro Crossover With L.A. Confidential Writer

Sony Pictures is moving a Django/Zorro crossover into development, reuniting two pop‑culture icons in a fresh adventure. The project draws from a 2014 comic series co‑created by Quentin Tarantino and Matt Wagner and centers on a new, original story rather than a direct remake.

Oscar winner Brian Helgeland, best known for L.A. Confidential, has been tapped to pen the screenplay. While specific plot details remain under wraps, the setup centers on Django joining forces with the legendary masked vigilante Zorro for a daring joint mission.

As Tarantino has long discussed a Django/Zorro pairing, the project remains in early development at Sony Pictures with no director attached. Tarantino will not be directing this film. In earlier iterations, Jerrod Carmichael was invited to draft a version, but that approach was shelved. Neither Jamie Foxx nor the actors commonly associated with Zorro have signed on, and Tarantino has previously floated approaches that would cast Antonio Banderas in the role.

With no director and details tightly under wraps, Sony is pressing ahead to shape the script while keeping the rest of the plan under wraps for now.
