Illumination and Universal’s The Super Mario Galaxy Movie dominated theaters in its second weekend, crossing the $300 million mark in North America and $600 million globally. In the U.S., the film earned about $69 million, bringing its domestic total to $308.1 million through Sunday. Internationally, it added roughly $84 million from 88 markets, pushing the foreign tally to $321.1 million and the worldwide total to $628.8 million, the year’s top Hollywood grosser to date.
Amazon MGM’s Project Hail Mary also joined the milestone club, surpassing $500 million in global box office. Its North American haul stands at $256.7 million, while overseas contributed about $30.6 million, for a worldwide total near $510.6 million.
These results helped push 2026’s domestic box office to roughly $2.11 billion through April 8, a 23.5 percent rise from the prior year’s pace and the strongest start since before the pandemic. Analysts caution that year-to-year comparisons with 2019 should be treated with caution, but momentum remains as CinemaCon approaches.
Other weekend highlights included A24’s The Drama with a solid performance and Disney/Pixar’s Hoppers crossing the $350 million global mark, while You, Me & Tuscany opened with about $8.1 million, signaling continued appetite for diverse‑lead fare.
