Blumhouse’s The Mummy Sets a New Runtime Benchmark for the Franchise

Blumhouse’s new take on The Mummy is setting a fresh benchmark for the franchise by pushing the clock to 133 minutes, according to AMC Theatres and Fandango. That duration makes it the longest entry in the series to date.

Directed and written by Lee Cronin, the film features a cast including Jack Reynor, Laia Costa, Verónica Falcón, and Natalie Grace, with producers Jason Blum, James Wan, and John Keville aboard. This installment marks a shift in tone and approach for the horror series.

Unlike the Brendan Fraser era, this version operates as a standalone entry and carries an R rating for the first time in the franchise. Warner Bros. distributes the Blumhouse project, a contrast to Universal’s earlier The Mummy trilogy, which produced the earlier adventures.

Runtimes across the franchise show Cronin’s film at the top, followed by The Mummy Returns (129 minutes), The Mummy (1999) (125 minutes), The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (112), and The Mummy (2017) at 110 minutes. The new film thus sets the longest-mark in the franchise’s history.

The release is scheduled for April 17, 2026. Ahead of the debut, officials have stated that Brendan Fraser will not appear in Lee Cronin’s The Mummy, while talks of a separate The Mummy 4 featuring Fraser, Weisz, and others have circulated for a 2028 date.
