The Housemaid Author Comes Forward, Revealing Real Identity

After The Housemaid’s success and a forthcoming sequel, the author behind the series has stepped into the light. The writer, long identified by the pseudonym Freida McFadden, has revealed that her real name is Sara Cohen and that she also works as a physician who treats brain disorders when not writing.

In a conversation with USA Today, Cohen said it’s time to end the secrecy, insisting she is a real person with a real identity and nothing to hide. She explained that the pen name was a boundary between her medical career and her fiction.

She plans to keep publishing as McFadden, she added, and emphasized that the disclosure won’t affect her relationship with readers or her storytelling. She noted that her professional colleagues reacted with warmth and kept her secret.

Sequel on the way

Lionsgate is moving forward with The Housemaid’s Secret, directed by Paul Feig, with Sydney Sweeney back as Millie Calloway and Kirsten Dunst in a co-starring role. The film is targeted for a December 17, 2027 release.

The follow-up follows Millie as she takes a new assignment behind a door she's not supposed to see, unraveling a locked-door mystery that exposes darker truths than those in the first book.

Deadline’s Glenn Garner reported the reveal and Cohen’s plan to continue writing under the McFadden name, underscoring the author’s commitment to transparency with her readers.
