Ride Along 3 Moves Forward With New Writer After a Ten-Year Wait

Turns out there’s more story to tell!

Ice Cube and Kevin Hart are back in the mix for Ride Along 3, now in early development at Universal. Tim Story returns to direct and Will Packer reprises as producer, reassembling the team behind the first two films after more than a decade of attempts to relaunch the franchise.

In a move signaling renewed momentum, Universal has tapped a new writer to shape the screenplay. Daniel Gold, the writer of the Netflix/CBC comedy Workin’ Moms, has been hired to script Ride Along 3. Universal declined to comment on the report.

The premise centers on a security guard eager to prove himself to his girlfriend’s police officer brother, a dynamic that helped fuel the prior films’ success. The pair’s on-screen chemistry powered the first two entries, which together raked in hundreds of millions at the worldwide box office.

With a fresh voice aboard and a familiar creative team steering the project, Ride Along 3 could finally move past the decade-long development hurdle it has faced.
