Netflix has opened a 20,000-square-foot office in Buenos Aires as part of its Latin American expansion, presenting a slate from Argentina’s top talents. The lineup includes Ricardo Darín, Alex de la Iglesia, Pablo Larraín, Santiago Mitre and Pablo Trapero, among others.
The slate features Mafalda, the animated series from Oscar-winner Juan José Campanella, and The Future is Ours, Netflix’s expansive project in Argentina described as especially ambitious.
Among the upcoming features is an untitled project from Santiago Mitre, following his Oscar-nominated Argentina, 1985. Mitre co-wrote it with Mariano Llinás, and it stars Verónica Llinás and Peter Lanzani.
Ricardo Darín, star of The Eternaut, returns to the big screen in Lo dejamos acá, directed by Hernán Goldfrid.
The TV lineup includes Envious with a fourth and final season, In The Mud’s third season, and development on a second season of The Eternaut. Moria, inspired by Moria Casán, will debut on August 14 to mark her birthday.
The documentary slate features Yiya Murano: Death at Tea Time, and Carísima, a 10-episode series from Caro Pardíaco, along with portraits centered on musicians such as Fito Páez, with The World Fits in a Song.
Animation remains a priority, with Mafalda and The Future is Ours in production and slated for release next year. Netflix executive Francisco Ramos frames Argentina as a crucial part of a regional strategy that leans into local storytelling with universal appeal.
