Fondazione Prada unveils its first batch of film grants, naming Huezo, Weerasethakul and Akin among the inaugural recipients

The Fondazione Prada Film Fund has revealed the lineup of projects it will back in its first funding cycle. Among the initial honorees are Tatiana Huezo, Apichatpong Weerasethakul and Levan Akin, alongside a broader slate designed to nurture ambitious storytelling at various stages of production.

Launched during the Venice Film Festival as Prada extends its long-running cinematic partnership, the fund commits 1.5 million euros to support works in development, production, and post‑production. The aim is to sustain independent voices across borders and languages, with no genre or geography off-limits.

The inaugural slate comprises fourteen projects that span development, production and post‑production, drawn from companies in 26 countries across five continents. The selections exemplify a mix of debut features and seasoned visions, united by a shared commitment to formal innovation.

“The Film Fund exists to support authors whose visions may struggle to find traditional backing, while inviting audiences to experience diverse perspectives,” said a spokesperson for Fondazione Prada. “We intend to keep funding that bold, experimental strand of cinema by fostering a productive space for development across multiple phases.”

With a €1.5 million envelope, the program welcomes projects from a wide range of backgrounds and aims to enable rigorous creative research to reach the screen. The fund’s leadership emphasizes accompaniment across development, production and post‑production as a core principle of its approach.
