Warner Bros. Extends De Luca and Abdy as Box-Office Streak Persists
Warner Bros. has renewed the contract of film chiefs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy, extending their leadership as the studio rides a year of strong results.
In 2025, nine titles opened at No. 1 at the global box office, and across 11 releases the studio surpassed $4 billion worldwide.
A Year of Hits and Setbacks
The renewal follows a difficult stretch last year when Joker: Folie à Deux underperformed, and other bets such as Mickey 17 and Alto Knights didn’t meet expectations. Bloomberg reported that Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav was weighing leadership changes at the studio.
A Proven Run of Blockbusters
De Luca and Abdy have steered a string of hits, including Sinners, a $90 million original horror that grossed about $366 million globally, and A Minecraft Movie, which has tallied roughly $957 million worldwide. The studio’s release of Weapons by Zach Cregger added about $266 million to the tally.
They’re backing a slate that spans the DC Studios era led by James Gunn and Peter Safran while pursuing new original projects. Looking ahead, the lineup features Maggie Gyllenhaal’s The Bride!, an untitled Tom Cruise project from Alejandro G. Inarritu, Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights with Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie, Mortal Kombat II, and a fresh animated take on The Cat in the Hat.
Internally, memos circulated to staff celebrate the milestone and reiterate Warner Bros.’ commitment to theatrical storytelling and a bold, high-visibility slate for the coming years.
More to come as the studio steers a dynamic, high-stakes schedule into the next phase of its 100-year history.
