Exclusive: Shut Up, a Sámi drama produced in Norway, is lining up a Cannes bow as Norse Key Distribution takes the helm for international rights.
The series is a collaboration among Alfredfilm, Feelgood SFT, Snowreel and Rabbit Films, led by showrunners Silje Bürgin-Borch and Vegard Bjørsmo. Set in a small Sápmi town, it follows Elli Anne, a young Sámi woman whose life is upended after a brutal rape. As she seeks truth and justice within a tight-knit community, suspicion falls on Issat, a local snow-cross champion, a revelation that uncovers his hidden queer identity.
Norse Key Distribution, which will make its Cannes debut next week, has boarded the project for international release. A screening is scheduled for Tuesday, October 14, as the show positions itself for International Emmy- and Prix Europa-nominated status.
The title previously aired on NRK in Norway, YLE in Finland and SVT in Sweden.
MIPCOM kicks off October 13 at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes, where the Nordic slate will be pitched to buyers and festival programmers.
