A true-crime horror feature from Epic Pictures’ Dread label peels back the familiar face of Dorothea Puente, the 1980s boarding-house killer. The film casts Susan Priver in the lead, anchoring a story drawn from real events.
Directed by Chad Ferrin, Dorothea is slated to premiere in theaters on Halloween, with a subsequent VOD release on November 4. The ensemble includes Lew Temple, Brinke Stevens, Ginger Lynn, Brenda James, Cassandra Gava, Cyril O’Reilly, Ezra Buzzington, and Robert Miano.
The trailer is an exclusive preview for The Hollywood Reporter and is available for viewing below. It marks the second entry in Dread’s line of true-crime horror features, following this year’s Ed Kemper, with a future installment centered on the Night Stalker, Richard Ramirez, already planned.
Patrick Ewald, chief executive of Dread, describes the series as unflinching investigations into the dark corners of humanity. He says Ferrin’s direction transports audiences to the period of the killings, capturing atmosphere and psychology with a distinctive vision. Ewald also hints that the next film will push further into chilling territory.
