Jensen Ackles’ Prime Video crime drama Countdown has hit a snag, slipping in the streaming race as audiences shift focus and new titles crowd the platform. FlixPatrol currently places the series at number eight globally, a sign that it’s wrestling to keep pace with its rivals.
The push from Prime Video’s summer slate is fierce. The Summer I Turned Pretty and Gen V hold the top spots, while Countdown contends with a crowded field that could push it further down the rankings. The show closed its first season more than a month ago, and there’s been no new episode announced yet.
Critics have been split on Countdown, awarding it a 35% score on Rotten Tomatoes, while viewers have given it a more favorable 64% audience rating. The split reception has kept it in headlines and on global charts, where it remains a talking point through the season’s end.
Showrunner Derek Haas has a clear plan for a potential Season 2, should Prime Video give the green light. In earlier conversations with Collider, Haas described ideas that would pick up after the cliffhanger that closed Season 1, aiming for sharper twists and a more satisfying continuation if a renewal arrives.
Beyond Countdown, Jensen Ackles is staying busy. He’s set to reunite with the team behind CBS’s Tracker and is already attached to a new Prime Video project, Vought Rising, which would see Soldier Boy return in a prequel context. In the meantime, all episodes of Countdown remain streaming on Prime Video.
