Bosch’s On‑Screen Future in Doubt as Ballard Season 2 Rolls Out Without Titus Welliver

Prime Video has renewed Ballard for a second season, bringing Maggie Q back as LAPD detective Renée Ballard. Yet the press materials omit Titus Welliver, who spent years portraying Harry Bosch before joining Ballard’s orbit.

Welliver has since moved to a new MGM+ project, The Westies, paired with J.K. Simmons. That career move fuels questions about Bosch’s long‑running arc, especially as Ballard expands its universe without its iconic anchor.

What Ballard’s renewal signals

Adapted from Michael Connelly’s novels, Ballard follows the titular detective as she hunts cold cases during the night shift, while navigating respect within the LAPD. The series premiered on July 9 and quickly rose to the top of streaming charts, drawing strong reviews — including a rare 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Amazon MGM Studios credited the gripping storytelling and the performances of Maggie Q as central to the show’s renewal. Showrunners Kendall Sherwood and Michael Alaimo expressed enthusiasm about exploring Ballard’s world even deeper in Season 2.

Connelly’s comments on the renewal did not mention Welliver by name; he applauded Maggie Q’s portrayal and the chance to advance the Bosch saga with Ballard at the helm.

Even as Ballard Season 2 heads into development and will stream on Prime Video in more than 240 countries, fans debate whether Harry Bosch’s presence will continue to loom large or recede as the franchise grows.
