Bong Joon Ho’s Ally: Debut Animated Feature With a Star-Studded Voice Cast

Bong Joon Ho is expanding his storytelling horizon with Ally, his first animated feature. Neon has picked up North American rights, while CJ ENM, Penture Invest and Pathé are financing and distributing the project internationally. The film marks a new collaboration for the director, bringing together a globetrotting ensemble of talent.

Ally follows a curious piglet squid living in the uncharted depths of the South Pacific. She dreams of seeing the sun and becoming the subject of a wildlife documentary. A mysterious aircraft sinking into her ocean world propels Ally and a loyal, unlikely crew on a daring voyage toward the surface.

The voice cast reads like a cinema‑savvy lineup, including Ayo Edebiri, Bradley Cooper, Dave Bautista and Finn Wolfhard, with Alex Jayne Go, Rachel House and Werner Herzog also aboard. Their representation spans major agencies, underscoring the project’s marquee appeal.

Bong Joon Ho directs Ally from a script he co‑wrote with Jason Yu. The film has been in development since 2019 and is headed toward a first‑half 2027 completion with a release planned for that year.

Neon will release Ally in North America, while Pathé handles distribution in France, the Benelux region, Switzerland and West Africa. CJ ENM and Penture Invest partner to bring the title to South Korea, Vietnam, Turkey and Indonesia.

The project promises an oceanic odyssey that blends whimsy with adventure, guided by Bong Joon Ho’s distinctive vision.
