Pete Ohs Turns Filmmaking into Play, Inviting Fans to Remix His Trailer

Filmmaker Pete Ohs treats making movies as a playful, collaborative practice, and his latest project embodies that spirit. Set in Warsaw, Erupcja brings together Lena Góra, Will Madden, Jeremy O. Harris, and Charli XCX to follow a couple before a marriage proposal, with tensions that threaten to derail the plan.

Ohs has long prized a DIY, small‑cast approach. In IndieWire’s interview, he explains how he released the film’s trailer footage online for fans to remix, arguing that sharing the material invites participation rather than spoiling anything. He even riffs on his younger self, imagining how thrilling it would have been to sit in on a Boogie Nights edit at 16.

The deconstructed trailer is available for download at moonbeem.app, and Ohs has already seen a flood of remixes across Instagram, X, and TikTok. For him, this rapid feedback is not a gimmick but a way to keep momentum and keep the project alive while working with a lean crew and modest resources.

Ohs’s path ran through the music-video world with acts like Wavves and Best Coast before moving into indie features. An existential moment pushed him toward a philosophy of making movies for fun, keeping things small, and prioritizing speed over polish. “Greed isn’t good. Smaller is better. Less is more,” he says, a creed that now guides his process.

The Warsaw setting shaped the production, with a SAG framework needed for a theatrical release since local contracts don’t cover low-budget shoots. Yet the director kept the pace brisk, using the same camera gear he has trusted since 2012 to realize his vision.

Beyond the shoot, Ohs champions a hands-on, open approach to storytelling. He sees a kinship with a new generation of creators who grew up on YouTube and TikTok, as they bring a similar spirit of experimentation and pace to their work.
