Nicolas Cage Returns in Lords of War Sequel, Set for 2027 Release

Vertical has picked up U.S. rights to Lords of War, the sequel to Andrew Niccol’s 2005 thriller Lord of War. Niccol returns as writer-director, with Nicolas Cage reprising the role of arms dealer Yuri Orlov.

The project centers on a tense father–son dynamic: Orlov discovers he has a son, Anton, played by Bill Skarsgård, who is building his own mercenary empire to outpace his father. The backdrop of America’s ongoing conflicts frames the drama.

Vendôme Pictures produced and financed the film, which also features Laura Harrier, Sylvia Hoeks, and Greg Tarzan Davis. Principal photography recently wrapped in Morocco.

Vendôme Pictures and CAA Media Finance brokered the deal for the filmmakers, with FilmNation Entertainment handling international sales.

Niccol describes the story as a continuation of the merchant‑of‑death saga, introducing Anton as Yuri’s ultimate rival and a roguish counterpoint to his father. The movie is currently slated for a 2027 theatrical release.
