Maul: Shadow Lord Debuts a New Alien Species as Order 66 Survivors Enter Canon

Star Wars fans get a fresh canon entry in Maul – Shadow Lord as a brand-new alien species steps into the saga. The opening episodes focus on two Order 66 survivors — Jedi Padawan Devon Izara and Jedi Master Eeko-Dio Daki — who find themselves on the unspoiled world of Janix.

Devon pursues a pragmatic, sometimes roguish path to survive, while Daki holds fast to Jedi principles and hopes others will rally to help them. Their trajectories diverge when Devon is accused of theft, and Maul intervenes, freeing her from prison and pulling her toward a darker influence.

Behind the scenes, Daki is revealed to belong to a new species named the Mosyk, a revelation that marks the first canon appearance of this race. The nickname “Dino Jedi” surfaced during development before the official naming, and the Mosyk figure could appear again across Maul: Shadow Lord or other Star Wars media.

The Mosyk entry adds to the franchise’s broader pattern of expanding new species from background hints to central players, much like how Twi’leks grew from cameos to pivotal figures in Rebels and beyond. On Janix, Maul presses Devon toward the dark side as the Jedi Master uses the Force to aid on a dangerous bridge and to shepherd others in need.

With a second season already announced, the story promises to keep exploring the Mosyk, Devon, and Daki as multiform threats and alliances unfold on screen.
